Research Work
Participated in multiple national-level research projects and published over fifty papers domestically and internationally.
Main research directions: Clinical and basic research in otology
In-depth research has been conducted in cochlear microcirculation, middle ear sound transmission mechanisms, central networks and neurotransmitters of deafness, tinnitus, and vertigo, electrophysiological studies of neural conduction pathways during and after cochlear implantation, deafness gene research, and cochlear implant robotics. Currently leads sub-projects of the Major Research Plan of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, General Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Beijing Natural Science Foundation, sub-projects of the Eleventh Five-Year National Science and Technology Support Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and sub-projects of the Capital Development Fund.
In the 1990s, completed the Ministry of Health project on inner ear microcirculation research together with Professor Li Xuepei. It was discovered that glucocorticoids and papaverine can improve inner ear microcirculation, nimodipine reduces inner ear blood flow, and resection of the superior cervical ganglion can improve inner ear blood circulation. It was found that the mechanism of glucocorticoid treatment for sudden sensorineural hearing loss involves not only immunomodulatory effects but also improvement of inner ear blood flow.
From 2000 to 2001, conducted research on middle ear sound transmission mechanisms in fresh temporal bone specimens at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. First discovered that the sound energy loss at the incudostapedial joint is 3 dB. Using this as a standard, evaluated the impact of the tightness of the coupling between the prosthesis and the incus on hearing outcomes in stapes surgery for otosclerosis. It was found that the tighter the coupling between the prosthesis and the long process of the incus, the closer the sound energy loss approaches 3 dB.
Since 2001, collaborated with the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, on research into neurotransmitter changes and interventions for tinnitus, deafness, vertigo, and olfactory disorders. Published multiple international and national papers.
Since 2012, conducted research on deafness genes. Identified a large family with Alport syndrome-related deafness and conducted studies on the correlation between deafness genes and clinical phenotypes. In 2013, conducted genetic surveys of deaf patients and their families across multiple provinces and cities and established a specimen bank. Studied a family with Waardenburg syndrome.
