Graduated from the Department of Medicine, Beijing Medical University. He is the pioneer and academic leader of minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery for shoulder and elbow joints at the Department of Sports Medicine, Peking University Third Hospital. He is a Second-Level Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, and Chief Scientist of a Major National Science and Technology Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology. He currently serves as Director of the Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Division, Department of Sports Medicine, Peking University Third Hospital; Director of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine; Deputy Director of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Peking University Health Science Center; Director of the Beijing Rehabilitation Quality Control Center; and Director of the PUTH-Yantai International Rehabilitation and Geriatric Medicine Research Center. He invented two shoulder joint examination methods, which were incorporated into the AAOS International Guidelines (the only ones from China). He created the first new surgical procedure named after a Chinese person for the treatment of shoulder dislocation, the Cuistow procedure. He has obtained 45 authorized patents and achieved over ten million yuan in technology transfer. He established a new standard for return to sports, which was published in a top international orthopaedic journal. He created the CUI-style extracapsular retinacular precise release procedure for the patella.
