He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of common and refractory digestive diseases, especially liver diseases, liver cirrhosis and its complications.

He has published more than 100 papers in domestic and international core journals including Hepatology, J Biol Chem and Eur J Pharmacol. He has participated in the compilation of over 20 liver‑disease‑related monographs such as *Practice of Internal Medicine*, *Evidence‑Based Medicine and Clinical Practice* and *Hepatology*, and served as the chief editor of the monograph *Guidelines and Clinical Practice of Autoimmune Liver Diseases*. He has received honors including the Young Investigator Award of the Asia‑Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver Annual Conference, Top Ten Outstanding Young Talents of Zhongshan Hospital, and Star of the Century of Fudan University. As a key contributor, he has won five awards including the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, Shanghai Medical Award and Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award. His main research focuses on basic and clinical studies of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. He presides over Major Research Plan Projects and General Programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and was selected for the Shanghai Pujiang Talent Program in 2009.
