Specialties: Minimally‑invasive diagnosis and treatment of early endoscopic cancers, varices and internal hemorrhoids; diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal diseases, liver diseases and portal hypertension.

He serves as Deputy Director of the Department of Gastroenterology/Endoscopy Center, Director of the Internal Medicine Teaching and Research Section, and Executive Director of the Fudan University Centre for Evidence‑Based Medicine. He has long been engaged in front‑line clinical practice and teaching, integrating evidence‑based medicine principles into clinical and teaching activities. He has achieved numerous research accomplishments in basic and clinical studies of digestive diseases and digestive endoscopy. He performs endoscopic procedures for early gastrointestinal cancers, submucosal tumors and internal hemorrhoids, and is proficient in advanced techniques including endoscopic ultrasonography, magnifying chromoendoscopy, endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), full‑thickness resection and peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM). He is committed to the screening and management of chronic liver diseases, as well as endoscopic and comprehensive therapies for patients with portal hypertension and esophagogastric varices, including band ligation, sclerotherapy, tissue adhesive injection and ultrasound‑guided coil embolization. He has proposed and promoted multiple innovative techniques for precise endoscopic treatment of esophagogastric varices.

Committed to the integrated and mutually‑advancing development of medical care, teaching and research, he is in charge of multiple courses. As first or corresponding author, he has published over 200 papers, more than 60 of which are SCI‑indexed. He has edited or acted as principal contributor for nearly 20 textbooks and monographs. He has undertaken major research projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology and municipal science and technology commissions. His honors include the Second‑class National Award for Science and Technology Progress and the Second‑class Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award. He has supervised more than 40 doctoral and master’s students.
