He has been engaged in clinical practice and research on pulmonary infection, nosocomial infection, clinical microbiology, and anti‑infective drug application for more than 30 years. As a national‑level expert, he has participated in the prevention, control and clinical management of major respiratory infectious diseases including SARS, H5N1 and H7N9 avian influenza, H1N1 influenza A, and COVID‑19.

**Medical Expertise**: Various types of pneumonia; pulmonary fungal diseases such as cryptococcosis and aspergillosis; infections caused by tuberculosis and non‑tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM); undiagnosed pulmonary nodules and other pulmonary lesions; fevers (including fever of unknown origin); endocarditis and bloodstream infections (sepsis, etc.); complicated intra‑abdominal and urinary tract infections; skin‑soft‑tissue, bone and joint infections; surgical‑related infections (including implant‑associated infections); infections secondary to or complicated with malignancies; infections in immunocompromised hosts; drug‑resistant bacterial and fungal infections; selection and rational use of antibiotics.

He has presided over more than ten research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, sub‑projects of National Science and Technology Major Projects, grants from the former Ministry of Health, Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, and Shanghai Shenkang Hospital Development Center, with cumulative research funding of 11 million RMB. As the first or corresponding author, he has published over 200 academic papers in English‑language journals and Chinese core journals. He has served as chief editor for 17 academic monographs, including *Zhongshan Hospital Infectious Disease Case Chronicles: Clinical Reasoning for Difficult Cases*, *Competency Training in Bacterial and Fungal Infection Diagnosis and Treatment*, *Specifications for Laboratory Diagnosis of Lower Respiratory Tract Infections*, *Handbook of Anti‑Infective Chemotherapy*, *Hospital‑Acquired Infections*, *Standard Operating Procedures for Healthcare‑Associated Infection Prevention and Control*, and *Prevention and Control of COVID‑19*, as well as a nine‑volume book series *Best Practices for Healthcare‑Associated Infection Prevention and Control*. He is the chief translator of *Harrison’s Infectious Diseases* (3rd Edition) and *Bennett & Brachman’s Hospital Infections* (6th Edition). He has contributed chapters to more than 50 professional books such as *Practice of Internal Medicine*, *Pulmonary Infectious Diseases*, *Infectious Diseases*, and *Evidence‑Based Medicine and Clinical Practice*. He has led the formulation of multiple expert consensus documents and technical guidelines: *Technical Guidelines for Prevention and Control of Carbapenem‑Resistant Gram‑Negative Bacillus Infections in China* (2019), *Expert Consensus on Procalcitonin‑Guided Rational Clinical Application of Antimicrobial Agents* (2020), *Hospital Infection Management Under the “New Normal of the Pandemic” (Shanghai Expert Consensus)* (2021), and *Expert Consensus on Clinical Application and Result Interpretation of Metagenomic Sequencing Technology in Respiratory Tract Infections* (2022).

He was selected for the Shanghai Excellent Public Health Academic Leader Program in 2008. In 2009, he was appointed by WHO as an expert consultant on antimicrobial resistance and represented China in drafting the global action plan document. Also in 2009, he received the SHEA International Infection Control Ambassador Award. He served as Vice‑Chair of the 13th Asia‑Pacific Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infection (APCCMI) in 2012, and Chair of the 6th Asia‑Pacific Society for Infection Control (APSIC) Congress in 2013. In the same year, he attended the APEC Senior Officials’ Health Policy Dialogue in Indonesia, serving as session chair and delivering a keynote address. He was awarded the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Contribution Award by the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association and the National Outstanding Healthcare‑Associated Infection Management Award by the Chinese Hospital Association in 2013. In 2016, he obtained the Distinguished Contributor to Chinese Healthcare‑Associated Infection Management title from the Chinese Hospital Association. Appointed by WHO as an expert on multidrug‑resistant organism prevention and control in 2017, he represented China in developing the *Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Carbapenem‑Resistant Bacteria*. In 2020, he was honored as a National Advanced Individual in the Fight against COVID‑19 by the CPC Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission. In 2021, he won the Shanghai Municipal Government Quality Gold Award (team leader).
