Department Details

The Department of Nuclear Medicine at Renji Hospital, founded in 1958, is a research-oriented clinical specialty that integrates imaging diagnosis, functional testing, radionuclide therapy, in vitro analysis, and new drug research and development and production. It is among the first batch in China to be authorized to confer master's and doctoral degrees in imaging medicine and nuclear medicine and to host a postdoctoral mobile station; it is the affiliated department of the Clinical Nuclear Medicine Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine; it serves as the clinical pharmacology base of the Drug Research Institution (Nuclear Medicine) of Renji Hospital; it is a radioactive drug (Class IV) licensed laboratory; it is a "Key Discipline" of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission; a Shanghai "First-Class Discipline"; a Shanghai "Plateau Discipline"; and a National Key Clinical Specialty in Medical Imaging. For many consecutive years, it has ranked among the top ten in the country in the Fudan Edition Hospital Specialty Reputation Rankings, and for three consecutive years it has topped the list of nuclear medicine specialties in the competitiveness ranking of Shanghai tertiary hospitals. It was among the first in China to introduce PET/CT imaging, and annually completes over ten thousand high-quality PET/CT examinations; in 2019, it obtained the PET/MR configuration license; in 2020, it established the "Renji-United Imaging Molecular Imaging R&D Center," an innovative molecular imaging research and development center integrating "industry-university-research-medicine"; from 2020 to 2021, it successively introduced globally cutting-edge nuclear medicine imaging equipment such as the total-body dynamic Total-body PET/CT and ultra-high-definition TOF PET/MR. In collaboration with clinical departments, it carries out PET imaging techniques using a variety of novel positron molecular probes, including 68Ga-PSMA, 68Ga-DOTATATE, 68Ga-FAPI, 11C-acetate, 11C-choline, 11C-methionine, 11C-CFT, 18F-AV133, 18F-AV45, 18F-PI2620, 18F-PBR06, and 18F-NaF, for the clinical diagnosis and research of tumors and neurological diseases; it undertakes multiple domestic and international multicenter clinical trials and possesses a high level of capability in the application and translation of new molecular imaging technologies. It routinely performs more than 20 types of clinical SPECT examinations, including renal dynamic imaging, myocardial perfusion imaging (rest + stress), whole-body bone imaging, and pulmonary ventilation-perfusion imaging; in addition, it conducts basic research and clinical translation work on imaging agents such as 99mTc-PYP and 99mTc-RGD. It has a standardized radionuclide therapy protection ward, equipped with automatic drug dispensing and remote administration systems, and carries out treatment projects including 131I therapy for hyperthyroidism and differentiated thyroid cancer, 89Sr and 223Ra therapy for bone metastases, and 125I seed implantation. Discipline construction continues to advance, with consecutive funding from national-level projects such as the National Key R&D Program, and multiple high-quality academic papers published in top medical imaging journals; talent cultivation has been highly effective, with multiple individuals receiving funding from talent programs such as the Shanghai Youth Science and Technology Rising Star Program, the "Medical Garden New Star" Youth Talent Cultivation Funding Program, and the Sailing Program.
