He graduated from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences in 1988 and has since worked in the Department of Neurosurgery at The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. He obtained his Master’s degree in Surgery from Sun Yat-sen University in 1996. Since 2006, he has attended multiple global DBS training courses at Medtronic University and visited the United States, Germany, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and other regions for further study.

Awards and Research Projects: He has undertaken two Guangdong provincial science and technology projects (one each in 2010 and 2012) and one Guangdong Natural Science Foundation project (2011). He received the Second Prize of the Science and Technology Award from the Ministry of Education for clinical and basic research on pituitary tumors, and the Third Prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Award for the separation of complex craniopagus twins. He has also participated in many other research programs.

He performs microsurgical resection of intracranial tumors including meningiomas, gliomas, vestibular schwannomas and skull base tumors. With superb microsurgical skills, he achieves high cure rates and low complication rates; blood transfusion is unnecessary for 90% of these tumor operations.

He carries out minimally invasive treatment for cranial nerve disorders: microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, glossopharyngeal neuralgia and other cranial nerve diseases, with a cure rate above 90% and no deaths or major complications.

He applies stereotactic techniques for movement disorders: deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia yields favorable outcomes, and his DBS results rank among the leading levels in China. He also performs surgical treatment for refractory epilepsy with satisfactory efficacy.

Research Interests: Basic and clinical research on surgical management of functional brain disorders, brain tumors, and cranial nerve diseases.
