Chief Physician. He currently serves as Administrative Director of the Department of Thoracic Surgery and Secretary of the Party Branch of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital. Having graduated from Shanghai Second Medical University in July 1988, he has been engaged in clinical work in thoracic surgery for nearly 32 years. Director Zhu Yuming has long been committed to the research, translation and promotion of minimally invasive surgical treatment for thoracic diseases. As one of the world’s top experts in uniportal thoracoscopic surgery, he was among the first in China to perform uniportal thoracic surgery and has completed the widest range of surgical procedures, winning high recognition from the thoracic surgery community at home and abroad. He has been invited many times for global live surgical broadcasts. As the first thoracic surgeon from China since the founding of the People’s Republic of China to be invited to perform live surgery overseas, he delivered surgical demonstrations and lectured on minimally invasive surgical techniques and experience in developed Western countries, effectively elevating the international standing of Chinese thoracic surgery.

Under his leadership, the department established norms and standards for uniportal thoracoscopic surgery, and innovatively proposed the surgical approach for uniportal thoracoscopic lobectomy. This approach has been included in classic international thoracic surgery textbooks, *Shields’s General Thoracic Surgery* and *SugarBaker’s Adult Chest Surgery*. He participated in formulating the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS) consensus on uniportal thoracoscopic lobectomy (the only Chinese participant). He developed specifications for managing intraoperative bleeding during uniportal thoracoscopic surgery. This research provides additional evidence-based medical evidence for determining the scope of surgical resection in early-stage lung cancer, and has been cited in *A Lung Cancer Journey, 1973 to 2016* and *Progress in Cancer Prevention and Control in China 2016*.In addition, his research team has produced high-quality research outputs including the world’s largest case series reported in literature on uniportal thoracic surgery and the largest case series of subxiphoid uniportal thoracic surgery. He pioneered the launch of an international thoracoscopy training program in China, which is the only thoracic surgery backbone training base in China designated the "Francis Fontan Fellowship" by the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery. It is also the only minimally invasive thoracic surgery training base in China officially recommended by multiple academic societies from developed countries. For the first time in its history, EACTS set up a special fund to send senior European physicians to receive training at this center. The Japanese Association for Chest Surgery (JACS) and the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS) officially recommend this center as a minimally invasive training base. To date, it has trained more than 600 international trainees from nearly 80 countries and regions, mainly from Japan, South Korea and developed Western countries and regions. The trainees include academic elites such as presidents of major European and American thoracic surgery societies and national thoracic surgery associations, with 11 long-term Fellows trained.

Specializes in surgical treatment of thoracic tumors such as lung cancer, esophageal cancer, cardiac cancer and mediastinal tumors, surgical management of pulmonary tuberculosis diseases and comprehensive treatment of related intractable conditions. He is adept at thoracoscopic minimally invasive surgery for various thoracic diseases. Particularly in single-port thoracoscopic surgery, he is one of the earliest experts in China to carry out such operations and has completed the largest number of relevant procedures.
