He has been working in the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital since 1997, with over 20 years of clinical experience in thoracic surgery and an annual personal surgical volume of more than 1,500 cases. He is among the pioneers in China to perform uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy in 2013. In 2014, he completed China’s first case of subxiphoid uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy. His relevant surgical experience and videos have been presented and demonstrated at numerous international and domestic conferences. Subxiphoid thoracoscopic surgery is suitable for the treatment of early-stage lung cancer, pulmonary bullae, mediastinal tumors and other conditions. As it causes no injury to the ribs or intercostal nerves, subxiphoid uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery greatly alleviates short-term and long-term postoperative wound pain, skin numbness and other complications. Moreover, lesions in both lungs can be managed through a single incision of approximately 3–4 cm, avoiding the pain of bilateral thoracotomy in conventional surgery.

From July 2006 to September 2007, he studied thoracoscopic surgery and other thoracic surgical techniques at the Department of Thoracic Surgery, Mayo Clinic and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the United States. He has published more than 20 papers and participated in compiling 5 monographs. He has presided over multiple research projects including those supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Shanghai Science and Technology Development Fund. He was nominated for the Silver Snake Award, the highest honor for young talents in Shanghai’s health system, in 2011. In 2015, he won the only top Excellence Award in the AME-Medtronic National Video Competition for Thoracoscopic Lung Resection Surgery.

His expertise covers uniportal and subxiphoid uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic treatment for various pulmonary diseases such as early-stage lung cancer and mediastinal tumors, as well as surgical management of tracheal tumors, advanced lung cancer and complex thymomas.
