Education and Work Experience

He has been engaged in clinical practice, teaching and research of kidney diseases for more than 30 years. He served as Director of the Department of Nephrology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat‑sen University from 2005 to 2022, and Member of the Nominating Committee of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis from 2018 to 2022. He conducted basic and clinical research successively as visiting scholar and clinical observer at the Institute of Immunology, Al. Fleming Biomedical Sciences Research Center in Greece, Toronto General Hospital, University of Toronto in Canada, and Kidney Institute, Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington, USA.

Research Interests

Prevention and treatment of kidney diseases with a focus on peritoneal dialysis and integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine.

Research Achievements

As the principal investigator, he has led more than 20 research projects at all levels, including 9 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. As the lead or key contributor, he has received 8 science and technology awards including the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award and the First Prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award. He has published over 330 papers in renowned domestic and international journals, among which more than 130 are SCI articles published in journals such as American Journal of Kidney Diseases and Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, including over 80 papers as first or corresponding author.

Clinical Expertise

He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of common, prevalent and difficult renal diseases, including primary and secondary glomerular diseases and tubulointerstitial diseases, such as chronic glomerulonephritis, chronic kidney failure, nephrotic syndrome, IgA nephropathy, membranous nephropathy, lupus nephritis, hypertensive renal injury, diabetic nephropathy, interstitial nephritis and urinary tract infection. He is particularly skilled in comprehensive management and complication control of peritoneal dialysis for end‑stage kidney disease, as well as the prevention and treatment of chronic kidney disease by integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine.
