Education and Work Experience

He completed his undergraduate studies in 1988 and later obtained his master’s and doctoral degrees from Sun Yat‑sen University. He was a visiting scholar in the Division of Nephrology at Boston Medical Center, Boston University, USA, from 2001 to 2004. He has been devoted to clinical practice, teaching and research of kidney diseases in the Department of Nephrology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat‑sen University for more than 30 years.

Research Achievements

He has presided over more than 20 research projects at all levels, including 8 General Programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and a Key Program of the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province. He has published over 140 SCI papers in high-impact journals such as Kidney International, Advanced Science, Autophagy and Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. As a major contributor, he has won the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the First Prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Award, the First Prize of Guangdong Natural Science Award and the First Prize of Guangdong Medical Science and Technology Award.

Research Interests

Prevention and treatment of peritoneal dialysis‑related fibrosis, preservation of residual renal function, management of cardiovascular complications, as well as molecular mechanisms and therapeutic strategies for renal fibrosis.

Clinical Expertise

Diagnosis and treatment of common, prevalent and difficult renal diseases, including primary and secondary glomerular diseases, tubulointerstitial diseases, drug-induced renal injury and urinary tract infection. He specializes in the management of acute and chronic kidney failure and comprehensive care for end-stage kidney disease patients on peritoneal dialysis, with rich clinical experience in improving quality of life, preserving residual renal function, and preventing and managing cardiovascular complications.
