He pioneered a novel surgical procedure for reconstruction of hand grip function in total brachial plexus root avulsion: early dual gracilis muscle transfer combined with nerve transfer. He also developed the anterior transvertebral contralateral C7 nerve transfer for direct repair of the lower trunk combined with gracilis transfer for functional reconstruction of total brachial plexus root avulsion. His research on microsurgical repair and functional reconstruction of brachial plexus injuries has formed distinctive features and gained recognition at home and abroad. He was invited to deliver an invited lecture at the 31st Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery in October 2004. He is among the early adopters of minimally invasive internal fixation for limb fractures in China, including the AO Less Invasive Stabilization System (LISS) for periarticular knee fractures.

Research Interests Traumatic orthopedics, microsurgery and hand surgery: peripheral nerve and brachial plexus injuries; microsurgical repair and minimally invasive treatment for severe limb trauma, open fractures and tissue defects.

Clinical Expertise He has been engaged in orthopedic and microsurgical clinical practice in university-affiliated hospitals since graduating in 1984. His specialties include traumatic orthopedics, microsurgery, hand surgery, and repair of peripheral nerve and brachial plexus injuries. He specializes in repair and functional reconstruction of peripheral nerve and brachial plexus injuries, diagnosis and management of limb, joint and pelvic fractures, minimally invasive fracture fixation, management of multiple injuries, hand trauma, replantation of amputated limbs and fingers, toe-to-hand transfer for finger reconstruction, microsurgical repair and functional reconstruction of severe vascular, muscular and soft tissue defects of the extremities, correction of hand and limb deformities, bone lengthening and microsurgical reconstruction.
