Work Experience: Graduated from the Department of Clinical Medicine with a bachelor’s degree in 1997 and has been engaged in surgical clinical work and research ever since. He later obtained his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Surgery from Sun Yat-sen University. He was appointed Chief Physician in 2014 and Professor and Doctoral Supervisor in 2016, a position he still holds. He is currently Director of the Third Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery. He was selected into the first batch of Guangdong Provincial Leading Medical Talents and Outstanding Young Medical Talents.

Publications: He has published nearly 40 SCI papers as the first or corresponding author, including publications in Lancet Oncology (IF=34.7), Advanced Science, Cancer Letters (2024), Journal of Translational Medicine, Biomaterials (11.23), and Oncogene.

Research Grants: He has presided over two National Natural Science Foundation projects, Guangdong Natural Science Foundation projects, Guangdong Science and Technology Program projects, major industry-university-research projects of Guangzhou Science, Technology and Information Bureau, and Sun Yat-sen University 5010 projects. He established the Guangdong Engineering Research Center for Stem Cell Therapy of Refractory Digestive Diseases. Laparoscopic para-aortic lymph node dissection was approved as a major high-tech project of Guangzhou.

Monographs: He participated in compiling monographs including Gastrointestinal Surgery, Lymphatic Metastasis of Gastric Cancer, and Notes of Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgery.

Research Interests:

1. Basic and clinical research on standardized, adjuvant and comprehensive treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies, especially gastric cancer, colorectal cancer and gastrointestinal stromal tumors
2. Bariatric and metabolic surgery, diagnosis, treatment and basic research of benign gastrointestinal diseases
3. Clinical surgical nutrition and enhanced recovery after surgery
4. Congenital digestive tract diseases

Specialties: Robotic and laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery and comprehensive treatment for esophageal cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, gastric and colorectal tumors, and pancreatic tumors. He performs bariatric and metabolic procedures such as sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass for obesity complicated with type 2 diabetes. He carries out extended para-aortic lymph node dissection for gastric cancer, as well as low and ultra-low sphincter-preserving procedures for rectal cancer including ISR and Parks surgery. He has developed and promoted single-port, reduced-port and NOSES (natural orifice specimen extraction surgery). He has extensive experience in abdominal wall hernias including hiatal hernia, inguinal hernia and incisional hernia. He boasts rich experience and profound expertise in the standardized and comprehensive management of gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumors and esophageal diseases.
