Education and Work Experience: He completed his undergraduate studies at Jiangxi Medical College in 1985, obtained his master’s degree from Sun Yat-sen University in 1996, and earned his doctoral degree from Sun Yat-sen University in 2004. He conducted cancer research at McGill University, Canada in 2002, and observed oncological surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center, USA in 2012. From 1985 to 1993, he worked as Resident and Attending Surgeon at Yichun Prefectural Hospital in Jiangxi. Between 1996 and 2000, he served as Attending Physician and Associate Chief Physician in the General Surgery Department of Guangzhou Development District Hospital. He was a visiting scholar at McGill University, Canada from 2002 to 2005. Since 2005, he has been working in the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery at The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University as Associate Chief Physician and Chief Physician.

He emphasizes the comprehensive treatment of liver cancer, adopting surgery as the mainstay combined with interventional radiotherapy, ultrasound-guided ablation, targeted therapy and other modalities to improve therapeutic outcomes. In biliary surgery, tailored to the characteristics of hepatolithiasis among Chinese patients, he actively performs hepatic lobectomy and segmentectomy for intrahepatic bile duct stones. He can manage complex hepatolithiasis and reoperative biliary cases with favourable results. For the challenging disease of hilar cholangiocarcinoma, he performs combined hepatectomy, lymphadenectomy and biliary reconstruction to achieve satisfactory outcomes. In pancreatic surgery, he carries out distal pancreatectomy and pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreatic cancers at different locations. For advanced cases with superior mesenteric vein or portal vein invasion, he performs pancreaticoduodenectomy with vascular resection and reconstruction with good results.

Research Interests: Primary liver cancer, hilar cholangiocarcinoma, hepatolithiasis, pancreatic head cancer and periampullary carcinoma.

In hepatic surgery, he performs highly demanding procedures including resection of giant liver cancer, left hepatectomy, right hepatectomy, extended hepatectomy such as left trisegmentectomy and right trisegmentectomy. He is experienced in challenging resections for lesions in special locations, including isolated caudate lobectomy and caudate lobectomy combined with hemihepatectomy. He has accumulated rich experience in managing special cases such as liver cancer with portal vein tumour thrombus and liver cancer invading the biliary tract.
