Education and Work Experience: He completed his undergraduate studies at the Department of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen College of Medical Sciences from 1979 to 1984 and was awarded a Bachelor’s degree. He joined The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in 1984 and has worked in the Department of Neurosurgery ever since. He obtained his Master’s degree in Surgery from Sun Yat-sen University in 2000. From 1997 to 1998, he was a visiting scholar and fellow in neurosurgery at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He is a core expert of the Cranio-Orbito-Facial Skull Base Team at The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, and one of the primary surgeons for China’s first and the world’s fifth successful separation of type-D craniopagus twins.

Research Interests: Nervous system tumors (vestibular schwannomas and meningiomas).

He commenced his neurosurgical career in 1984 and received standardized training covering the full spectrum of neurosurgical disorders, accumulating extensive clinical experience across diverse neurosurgical conditions.

His current work focuses on clinical and basic research in neuro-oncology, with a special interest in meningiomas and neurofibromas. He has performed more than 2,000 high-risk operations involving the skull base and cavernous sinus, with an overall mortality rate below 0.9%, meeting internationally advanced standards. He has maintained zero perioperative mortality for many years. For vestibular schwannoma surgery, the rates of facial nerve anatomical preservation and satisfactory functional preservation exceed 98% and 90% respectively. He also has abundant experience applying minimally invasive modalities including neuronavigation and neuroendoscopy.
