The Clinical Laboratory of the International Peace Maternity and Child Health Hospital is a medical laboratory integrating medical services, teaching, and research. Currently, the Clinical Laboratory has developed to possess medical equipment valued at 30 million RMB. The laboratory is constructed in accordance with the national Class II Biosafety standards, with a usable area of approximately 1,000 square meters. The Clinical Laboratory comprises 5 specialized groups: Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Immunology Group 1, Clinical Immunology Group 2, and Outpatient and Emergency Testing (including Blood Bank). In accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Health, an HIV Preliminary Screening Laboratory was established in 2000. To meet clinical needs, nearly 200 test items are currently offered, with over 5,000 reports issued daily. It now serves as a teaching base for Shanghai Pharmaceutical College. The Clinical Laboratory is responsible for all routine tests for outpatients and inpatients throughout the hospital, as well as some research and teaching tasks. The Clinical Laboratory carries out internal quality control for all test items and participates in the internal quality control and external quality assessment activities mandated by the Shanghai Center for Clinical Laboratory. Some items also participate in the external quality assessment program of the National Center for Clinical Laboratories of the Ministry of Health. Additionally, it participates in the external quality assessment for HIV organized by the Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and for syphilis and gonococcus organized by the Shanghai Sexually Transmitted Disease Control Center, and has achieved satisfactory assessment results year after year.
