Our hospital's Department of Radiology has a history of nearly 65 years. The late Professor Ye Ying served as the first department director. Through the efforts of several generations and decades of development, the department has developed distinctive specialty features and achieved remarkable results, with its influence among domestic peers increasing year by year. The current discipline leader, Chief Physician Sha Yan, took over the important responsibility of the Department of Radiology in May 2002. Facing difficulties head-on and courageously taking on responsibilities, breakthrough developments have been achieved in department management, medical services, education, and research. Over the past decade or more, the department has applied for and obtained 9 research projects of various types, edited 4 imaging monographs, published over 100 papers in national journals, and more than 30 SCI papers. As the second contributor, he also won the Second Prize of the 2016 Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award. The department currently has 38 staff members, including 9 with senior professional titles, 8 with intermediate professional titles, 1 doctoral supervisor, and 2 master's supervisors. Discipline construction is thriving. The department is equipped with a variety of advanced digital imaging equipment, including one photon dual-source CT and one 128-slice spiral CT, one cutting-edge Prisma and one Verio 3T MRI, as well as advanced ultrasound, ECG, and other equipment. Each year, nearly 100,000 patients of various types undergo examinations and diagnoses. The department has rich experience in imaging examination and diagnosis of congenital malformations, inflammation, and tumors of the eyes, ears, nose, throat, head, and neck. The imaging diagnosis of head and neck and facial features has reached the domestic advanced level, with the imaging diagnosis of the ear and skull base particularly leading domestically. Approximately 5,000 outside film consultations are conducted each year. The department undertakes imaging teaching tasks for hospital trainees, graduate students, and multiple continuing medical education programs, and has become a training and teaching base for resident physicians and specialist physicians in Shanghai.
