The Department of Oculoplastic and Otorhinolaryngologic Plastic Surgery at Fudan University Affiliated Eye & ENT Hospital is an emerging interdisciplinary department established in June 2017, building upon the foundation of our national key disciplines of Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology. Professor Zhang Tianyu serves as the department director. The department adheres to the academic philosophy of "disease treatment, functional reconstruction, morphological restoration, and aesthetic reshaping," fulfills the medical mission from "healthy facial features" to "beautiful facial features," and practices and leads the new concept of "subspecialization of plastic surgery." Taking Fudan University's "Double First-Class" initiative as an opportunity and the hospital's "14th Five-Year Plan" as a guide, the department has refined its strategic development plan. The discipline comprises the "Oculoplastic and Aesthetic Center," the "Otofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Center," and the "Plastic Laser and Aesthetic Center (under preparation)," forming a development direction and pathway with distinctive characteristics and unique techniques. It is dedicated to building a nationally leading and internationally renowned subspecialized plastic surgery center through multidimensional efforts. The department currently has 3 chief physicians who are Shanghai Outstanding Academic Leaders, 5 associate chief physicians, 1 doctoral supervisor, and 3 master's supervisors. It has undertaken dozens of research projects at various levels, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has received awards such as the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the Ministry of Education and the Second Prize for Chinese Medical Science and Technology. Multiple young physicians have received honorary titles such as Shanghai "Medical Rising Star" and "Fudan University Top Ten and Top Hundred." The public welfare brand "Joyful Ears Online" was founded by the department. The department currently has 20 general beds and some VIP beds. In the field of ear reconstruction, over 1,000 functional ear reconstruction surgeries are performed annually. The department has proposed a new comprehensive classification, typing, and grading system for auricular deformities, established a series of diagnostic and treatment protocols and technical systems for functional ear reconstruction, and led the development of the "International Consensus Recommendations on Microtia, Aural Atresia and Functional Ear Reconstruction," the "Expert Consensus on Clinical Management Strategies for Congenital External and Middle Ear Malformations," and the "Expert Consensus on Ear Molding Correction Techniques for Congenital Auricular Deformities." In the field of oculoplastic surgery, focusing on therapeutic and aesthetic plastic surgery for ocular diseases, the department comprehensively utilizes lasers, injections, surgery, and other methods, performing over 3,000 eyelid aesthetic and comprehensive treatments annually. Extensive innovative treatments have been carried out in double eyelid surgery, aesthetic correction of ptosis, periorbital rejuvenation, and ocular prosthesis restoration. The department possesses more than 10 of the latest laser treatment devices of various types. By comprehensively utilizing minimally invasive approaches such as photoelectric therapy and injections, it carries out minimally invasive treatment of eyelid tumors, nasal vestibular tumors, auricular and external auditory canal tumors, comprehensive treatment of various scars, and facial aesthetic and rejuvenation treatments, forming distinctive technical characteristics of the discipline.
