The Department of Radiation Oncology at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center was founded in 1979. Patients come from all over the country, and the department has accumulated rich clinical experience in treating head and neck tumors and enjoys a good professional reputation. Chief Physician Wang Xiaoshen serves as the deputy director of the radiation oncology discipline (presiding over the work), is a master's supervisor, and currently concurrently serves as: Standing Committee Member of the Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association; Standing Committee Member of the Head and Neck Tumor Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association; Standing Committee Member of the Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Expert Committee of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO); Member of the CSCO Head and Neck Tumor Expert Committee; Member of the Head and Neck Tumor Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association; Vice Chairman of the Radiotherapy Specialty of the Tumor Prevention and Treatment Branch of the Chinese Association of Geriatric Health Care and Medical Research; Member of the Special Medical Toxicology Committee of the Chinese Society of Toxicology; Member of the Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Prevention and Treatment Branch of the China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care; Secretary of the Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Professional Committee of the Shanghai Anti-Cancer Association. He has successively won the Second Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, the Third Prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, the Third Prize of the Science and Technology Award of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, the Third Prize of the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, and the title of Outstanding Teaching Teacher in Shanghai's "Resident Standardized Training." In 2010, he studied at the University of Michigan Cancer Center in the United States under Professor Avraham Eisbruch, who was rated as "Best Radiation Oncologist in North America" for 12 consecutive years and a "Master of Precision Radiotherapy." He has repeatedly spoken and exchanged ideas at the American ASTRO Annual Meeting and the European ESTRO Annual Meeting, and won the ASTRO Annual Meeting "Best International Abstract Award" and "Best of ASTRO." Invited by the world's top journal Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology, he wrote about the experience of precision radiotherapy for head and neck tumors (the journal's 2021 impact factor has reached 66.3); he was invited to participate in writing the American radiotherapy textbook Clinical Radiation Oncology (Third Edition), writing Chapter 18; he served as chief editor of "Target Delineation for Precision Radiotherapy of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma---Basis, Principles and Details"; he participated in the editing of 5 books; and he has published more than 50 papers. The discipline has strong professional advantages. Not only are there many cases of common head and neck tumors, but there are also many difficult and complicated cases and rare diseases. The radiotherapy disease types include all malignant tumor types of the head and neck (nasopharyngeal carcinoma, laryngeal cancer, hypopharyngeal cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, oral cancer, nasal cavity and paranasal sinus cancer, salivary gland cancer, thyroid cancer, ocular and ear malignant tumors, lymphoma, melanoma, sarcoma), as well as some benign tumors (hemangioma, eosinophilic granuloma, thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy, inflammatory pseudotumor, etc.). Through multidisciplinary team cooperation, radiotherapy, surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy are organically combined to improve tumor control rates and improve patients' quality of life. The discipline currently has 2 chief physicians and professors, 6 associate chief physicians, 10 attending physicians, 1 resident physician, 3 physicists, 4 dosimetrists, 14 technicians, and 2 nurses. Among the discipline members, 12 have doctoral degrees and 7 have master's degrees; there are 18 beds and a professional ward nursing team; a well-trained tumor radiotherapy team with mature professional medical technology has been formed. The discipline has world-class treatment equipment and treatment technology, and carries out three-dimensional intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), image-guided precision radiotherapy (IGRT), rapid arc volumetric modulated radiotherapy (Rapid ARC), and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), improving the accuracy of irradiation, killing tumors while protecting normal organs to the greatest extent, and improving patients' quality of life. The radiation oncology discipline carries out multidisciplinary collaboration (MDT) with ophthalmology, head and neck surgery, nasal skull base surgery, pathology, radiodiagnosis, laboratory medicine, nutrition, and other departments, forming planned radiotherapy combined with surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, providing more treatment options and hope of survival for patients with advanced head and neck tumors. During radiotherapy and chemotherapy, professional nutritionists participate in full-course dietary nutrition guidance. It has been awarded the titles of Shanghai Demonstration Ward for Standardized Radiotherapy Nutrition Therapy and National Demonstration Ward for Standardized Tumor Nutrition Therapy.
