The Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Fudan University Affiliated Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital is one of the largest centers for the diagnosis, treatment, and research of otorhinolaryngology head and neck surgical diseases in the world. It is among the first batch of national key disciplines and authorized to confer master's and doctoral degrees in China, and has ranked first for many consecutive years in the national otorhinolaryngology specialty rankings (Fudan edition) and the National Health and Family Planning Commission's National Clinical Key Specialty rankings. The disciplinary team includes outstanding talents such as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, chief scientists of the 973 Program, Changjiang Scholars, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars recipients, Ministry of Education Innovation Teams, Shanghai Leading Talents, Shanghai Medical Leading Figures, and Ministry of Education New Century Excellent Talents. Among them are 23 professors/chief physicians, 34 associate professors/associate chief physicians, 17 doctoral supervisors, and 17 master's supervisors. The main hospital currently has 254 beds and is at the leading domestic and advanced international level in the diagnosis and treatment of auditory and speech disorders, otoneurologic skull base surgery, ear microsurgery, ear reconstructive surgery, vertigo, refined diagnosis and individualized treatment of tinnitus and deafness, comprehensive treatment and flap repair of head and neck tumors, endoscopic sinus and sinonasal skull base surgery, as well as airway foreign bodies and throat and voice disorders. It also undertakes a large number of major research projects from the 973 Program, major projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Education, the National Health Commission, and Shanghai Municipality. In response to the State Council's initiative to promote the construction of world-class universities and first-class disciplines (Double First-Class), our hospital established the Institute of Otorhinolaryngology at the end of 2016, integrating clinical practice, scientific research, and technology transfer. We will increase the introduction and cultivation of top-tier talents at home and abroad, build innovation and translation platforms, comprehensively promote the development of the discipline, accelerate the enhancement of the discipline's overall strength and domestic and international influence, and become an excellent talent training base in this field and an important platform for domestic and international academic exchange.
