The Department of Optometry has established the Key Laboratory of Myopia of the Health Commission, the ICL Global Research and Education Base, the Asia-Pacific Refractive Surgery and SMILE Training Center, the Intraocular Lens Myopia Correction Center, the Keratoconus Cross-Linking & RGP Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and the Low Vision and Presbyopia Specialty Center. The discipline is the lead unit of the Shanghai Optometry Vocational Technical Qualification Assessment Institute and one of the initiating units of the National Orthokeratology Safety Monitoring Committee. To date, it has received the only National Technological Invention Second Prize in the field of optometry in China, and in terms of medical education and research, especially in basic and clinical research on myopia, its achievements have repeatedly won the National Science and Technology Progress Second Prize, the First Prize of the Ministry of Education, the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Clinical Medical Achievement Award, etc., providing comprehensive and high-quality diagnosis and treatment services for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. 　　It was the earliest in the country to carry out myopia correction surgeries (RK, PRK, LASIK, LASEK/Epi-Lasik, t-PRK, FLEX, SMILE, etc.) and complex refractive surgeries and complication management, transepithelial accelerated corneal cross-linking CXL, intraocular lens ICL V4C (EVO) for high myopia, and presbyopia (aging eye) correction surgery, etc. It leads the world in the field of femtosecond: SMILE surgery volume ranks first globally, and it was the first to report myopic SMILE-CCL, hyperopic SMILE autologous lenticule surgery, SMILE surface lenticule surgery, etc.; it performed China's first EVO ICL/TICL, opened the country's first high myopia ICL clinic, and currently ranks first globally among single hospitals in intraocular lens EVO ICL surgery volume, and published the country's first academic monograph on central hole ICL. 　　It was the earliest in China to propose the concept of medical optometry and the establishment of refractive development archives for myopia prevention and control, and was the researcher of China's first rigid contact lens, established the country's first contact lens and myopia prevention and control specialty, is the vice-chairman unit and sentinel unit of the Contact Lens Safety Monitoring and Visual Health Professional Committee of the China Health Management Association, and is the country's first myopia precision prevention and treatment center of the China National Health Association. It has achieved remarkable results in the standardized fitting of orthokeratology lenses (OK lenses), keratoconus RGP, and myopia prevention and control in children and adolescents, and by using the visual quality and binocular vision function research of the visual physiological optics platform, it was the earliest in China to establish training models for visual fatigue, presbyopia, and children's refractive errors, etc. It opened a low vision clinic earlier, helping low vision patients with rehabilitation training and improving patients' quality of life. 　　The discipline has 1 lifetime professor, 4 doctoral supervisors, 6 master's supervisors, 8 chief physicians, 14 associate chief physicians, 2 senior members of the International Orthokeratology Association, and a team of more than 20 doctors and postdoctoral fellows.
