The discipline of vitreoretinal diseases is one of the largest bases for the diagnosis, treatment, research, and teaching of vitreoretinal diseases in China. It extensively carries out minimally invasive vitreous surgery based on 23G and 25G+, ensuring the efficiency and safety of routine vitreous surgery, improving the success rate of complex vitreous surgeries (such as advanced diabetic retinopathy, refractive media opacity, small pupil, intraocular tumors, etc.), and reducing postoperative complications. The annual volume of complex vitreous surgeries exceeds 5,000 cases, of which more than 50% are difficult cases referred from all over the country. It has a medical backbone of 9 chief physicians and 13 associate chief physicians, as well as a full range of internationally advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. Its diagnosis and treatment of complex retinal detachment, retinal vascular diseases, macular diseases, etc. are at the leading domestic level, and it is particularly distinctive in the diagnosis and treatment of intraocular inflammation and tumors, reaching an internationally leading level. In recent years, the excellent treatment level has shortened the hospitalization period of patients undergoing surgery for vitreoretinal diseases to 2-3 days, and systemic postoperative medication has been completely abolished. The Department of Medical Retina is one of the earliest units in China to carry out photodynamic therapy and anti-VEGF treatment for fundus diseases, with more than 10,000 cases of anti-VEGF treatment per year. 　　It has strong scientific research and teaching capabilities, with 4 doctoral supervisors and 7 master's supervisors. It has undertaken multiple research funds including the "973" and "863" projects and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (General and Youth Programs), with provincial and ministerial-level project funding of more than 7 million yuan. It has served as chief editor and chief translator for multiple professional works and publishes more than 50 papers in core journals or above each year. It has trained more than 40 medical backbones and doctoral students from various regions and has won 4 provincial and ministerial awards.
