The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine is composed of tertiary disciplines including gynecology and obstetrics. With a glorious history of disciplinary development and through the unremitting efforts of several generations, the discipline has become a 985 Platform and National "211 Project" Key Construction Discipline, a National Health Commission Key Clinical Specialty, a Shanghai Top Priority Key Discipline, a Shanghai Key Clinical Specialty, a Shanghai Public Health Key Discipline, and a Shanghai University First-Class Discipline (Category A). The National Excellent Course, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Gynecologic Oncology, Shanghai Critical Maternal Consultation and Rescue Center, Shanghai Obstetric Cardiology Monitoring Center, and Shanghai Prenatal Diagnosis Center are all established in this department. The department currently has 181 beds, with more than 400,000 outpatient and emergency visits annually, 12,000 inpatient admissions annually, more than 10,000 surgeries annually, and a success rate of over 95% in rescuing critically ill patients. There are currently 85 clinical physicians, 9 full-time research personnel, 7 doctoral supervisors, and 11 master's supervisors. This discipline has become an important domestic base for clinical practice, education, and research in obstetrics and gynecology, with distinctive characteristics and significant advantages in the clinical diagnosis, treatment, and basic research of complex gynecologic tumors, critical obstetrics, and reproductive immunology, holding a leading position in China. It took the lead nationwide in establishing a multidisciplinary MDT comprehensive diagnosis and treatment center for gynecologic tumors that integrates clinical and basic research experts. The annual number of gynecologic malignant tumor cases treated ranks first among comprehensive hospitals in Shanghai, among which difficult and complex malignant tumor patients account for as high as 35%, ranking first in Shanghai, significantly improving patient prognosis. The annual number of critically ill pregnant and postpartum women rescued accounts for more than 40% of the city's total, with a rescue success rate of over 95%. Approximately 15,000 patient visits for recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) are diagnosed and treated annually, with a success rate of over 90%. Over the past 5 years, more than 100 research projects have been funded by national, ministerial, and municipal research grants, including 1 Major Scientific Research Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 1 Support Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 2 National Key Research and Development Programs, and more than 40 National Natural Science Foundation projects, including 2 Key Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation and 1 Excellent Young Scientists Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation, with total funding reaching 130 million yuan. The department has served as chief editor or associate chief editor for 13 monographs and teaching textbooks, published more than 400 SCI-indexed papers, applied for 17 national invention patents, of which 4 national invention patents and 1 utility model patent have been authorized. It has received the National Science and Technology Progress Second Prize, the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award Second Prize, and nearly 10 other provincial and ministerial-level awards. The discipline emphasizes domestic and international academic exchange. Over the past five years, it has hosted more than 30 domestic and international thematic conferences, including the "Pujiang Gynecologic Oncology International Forum," the "Pujiang International Reproductive Immunology Summit Forum," and the "National Continuing Education Training Course on Pregnancy Complicated with Heart Disease," with nearly 20,000 participants. It has undertaken 2 national continuing education training courses, led and participated in the formulation of more than 20 Chinese clinical expert consensus statements and industry guidelines, of which 8 were led by the department.
