Department of Pharmacy Development Goals: To recognize the mission of a university hospital and provide advanced hospital pharmacy services; to develop into a nationally leading Department of Pharmacy with comprehensive growth in patient care, education, and research. This is specifically reflected in: 1. Ensuring the growing supply of hospital medications through excellent work; 2. Meeting clinical pharmacotherapy needs with high-level pharmaceutical care; 3. Cultivating pharmacists equipped for future healthcare development as an educational mission; 4. Demonstrating the level of hospital pharmacy research through landmark achievements. Department of Pharmacy Core Services: To ensure the scientific and effective supply of medications and play an active role in hospital operations. Centered on clinical pharmacy practice, we strengthen collaboration with other departments, actively practice patient-centered team-based healthcare, and provide therapeutic drug monitoring and evidence-based pharmacy services to patients and healthcare professionals; promote the safety and efficacy of medication use while improving cost-effectiveness; provide education and training for pharmacists to adapt to future pharmaceutical services; and conduct clinical pharmacy research projects to advance the discipline. Department of Pharmacy Overview: Since the establishment of the department along with the hospital in 1958, generations of pharmacy staff have worked diligently and strived for excellence, laying a solid foundation for departmental development and achieving remarkable accomplishments. In 2009, the Department of Pharmacy received the first "Outstanding Team Award" (AstraZeneca Cup) established by the Chinese Hospital Pharmacy Professional Committee. In 2010, the department was designated as a National Key Clinical Specialty by the Ministry of Health. In 2011, it was awarded the "Youth Civilization Unit" by the Ministry of Health and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League. In recent years, with the support of the hospital, significant progress has been made in both software and hardware infrastructure. The department boasts an excellent team of professionals, including 26 pharmacists with senior professional titles, 113 with intermediate titles, and 101 junior pharmacists. Among them, 35 hold doctoral degrees and 42 hold master's degrees. The completion of the Pharmacy Building has provided the department with an excellent space for development, propelling it onto a fast track of comprehensive growth in patient care, education, and research. Over the years, the Department of Pharmacy has established a service philosophy centered on patients with clinical care as the primary focus. In 2005, it became one of the first hospital preparation units in China to pass GPP certification, manufacturing hospital preparations that are indispensable to patients, highly effective, and affordable. A well-established new drug selection system and evidence-based medical support have optimized the hospital's medication formulary. The drug warehouse, compliant with GSP requirements, ensures the quality of stored medications. The Pharmacy Intravenous Admixture Services (PIVAS) and the unit-dose dispensing machines in operation further guarantee the quality of the medication dispensing process. Clinical pharmacy services range from comprehensive medication consultation to full-course pharmaceutical care, representing unwavering efforts toward rational medication use for patients. In terms of education, the Department of Pharmacy actively promotes clinical pharmacy education in China. In 2002, it became a master's degree program site for clinical pharmacy under the Ministry of Education; in 2005, it pioneered the six-year Master of Science program in clinical pharmacy; in 2006, it developed into a doctoral degree program site for clinical pharmacy; also in 2006, it became a Beijing Municipal Standardized Training Base for Hospital Pharmacists, a Ministry of Health Clinical Pharmacist Training Base, and a Ministry of Health pilot unit for clinical pharmacist practice; in 2010, it became a Ministry of Health Clinical Pharmacist Preceptor Training Base. Since 2009, it has served as a clinical pharmacy practice site for the University of Kentucky and the University of Connecticut in the United States, with seven American clinical pharmacy graduates from these two universities completing 1-2 months of clinical pharmacy practice at our hospital, and two of our clinical pharmacy students going to the United States for 1 month and 1.5 years of clinical pharmacy practice and joint training, respectively. The department has undertaken numerous Beijing municipal and national continuing education programs, including 26 consecutive National Clinical Pharmacy Advances Training Courses held since 1997, as well as training courses on pharmacy administration and continuous improvement. In the training of clinical pharmacy graduate students, while emphasizing the close integration of research topics with clinical practice, the department continuously summarizes, innovates, and improves the clinical pharmacy practice training system. The Department of Pharmacy currently has 4 doctoral supervisors and 3 master's supervisors. From 2016 to 2024, a cumulative total of 95 graduate students have been trained, with 65 having graduated. In 2024, 3 clinical-type master's students and 1 research-type master's student graduated. As of October 2024, there are 30 graduate students currently enrolled, including 6 direct-entry doctoral students, 5 doctoral students, 3 six-year research-type graduate students, 14 clinical-type master's students, and 2 in-service research-type master's students. Many students have received honors including the National Scholarship, National Outstanding Thesis Awards for Professional Pharmacy Degree Graduates, First Prize for Innovation Achievements at the National College Student Pharmacy Forum, Peking University Doctoral President's Scholarship, Peking University Outstanding Graduates, Peking University Merit Students, and Third Prize in the First Peking University Health Science Center Public Health/Pharmacy Professional Degree Graduate Case Presentation Competition. Clinical pharmacy graduate students trained by the department have published multiple SCI papers in high-impact journals such as Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B (Impact Factor: 14.7) and Chinese Journal of Cancer Research (CAST T1 high-quality journal, Impact Factor: 7.0). Each year, graduate students are invited to present their research findings at prestigious domestic and international academic conferences, including the Asian Conference on Clinical Pharmacy, Chinese Medical Association, Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, and Chinese Pharmacological Society. According to the "China Hospital Specialty Reputation Rankings" published by the Hospital Management Institute of Fudan University, our clinical pharmacy specialty has been ranked first nationally for multiple consecutive years. Over the past 5 years, the Department of Pharmacy has achieved remarkable research outcomes, with over 120 new research projects and funding exceeding 60 million RMB. Staff members have published over 360 papers as first or corresponding authors, including more than 150 SCI papers; have been granted over 20 patents and software copyrights; have served as lead editors, lead translators, associate editors, or contributing authors for over 20 books; have led or participated in the development of over 10 national, local, and industry standards; and have published over 30 guidelines and consensus statements. As of 2024, a total of 116 individuals hold positions in various national, provincial, and municipal academic societies and journals. The department hosts multiple research platforms, including the Peking University Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology Center, the Peking University Health Science Center Drug Evaluation Center, and the Peking University Third Hospital-Chunfeng Pharmacy Innovation Joint R&D Center. Currently, the Department of Pharmacy is experiencing rapid and comprehensive development in patient care, education, and research, which is the result of the dedication and hard work of all department staff. Scope of Services The Department of Pharmacy comprises dispensing units including the Outpatient Pharmacy, Emergency Pharmacy, Reproductive Center Pharmacy, Infectious Diseases Pharmacy, Herbal Medicine Pharmacy, Inpatient Pharmacy, Pharmacy Intravenous Admixture Services (PIVAS), Drug Warehouse, and Preparation Unit, as well as Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Laboratory, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology Center, and pharmacies at various branch campuses. The dispensing units at the main campus and branch pharmacies are primarily responsible for medication management, dispensing, and supply assurance. They provide internet-based pharmaceutical services and offer medication consultation and education to outpatients, inpatients, and their families. The Pharmacy Intravenous Admixture Services (PIVAS) is primarily responsible for the centralized compounding of intravenous infusion long-term orders for inpatients across more than 60 nursing units in all clinical departments of the hospital, ensuring drug efficacy and safety through strict standard compounding procedures. The Drug Warehouse is responsible for ensuring the supply of medications to the entire hospital, meeting clinical and patient needs, with procurement processes strictly implemented in accordance with relevant regulations established by the Hospital Pharmacy Administration and Therapeutics Committee. The Preparation Unit is primarily responsible for the production, development, and management of hospital preparations. This includes renowned hospital preparations such as Jingtongping Tablets, Compound Xanthii Tablets, Compound Yinhua Tablets, Guanjie Xiyao (joint washing herbal medicine), Vitamin E Cream, and Danghong Trauma Cream. The Pharmaceutical Laboratory and Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology Center provide precision drug detection and analysis services, utilizing modern analytical techniques and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic principles to offer a precision detection platform for drugs and small analytical markers, thereby improving therapeutic levels and clinical research capabilities. Services include therapeutic drug monitoring/clinical toxicology analysis, small molecule biomarker detection, metabolomics research, and population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic studies. The Clinical Pharmacy Group, as a National Key Clinical Specialty, covers over twenty subspecialties including Neurology, Pain Management, Oncology, Hematology, Infectious Diseases, Gastroenterology, Nutrition, ICU, Geriatrics, Cardiology, Respiratory, Nephrology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Rheumatology, General Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Dermatology, and Ophthalmology.
