The Department of Dermatology at Peking University Third Hospital was established in 1958. Its successive academic leaders have been Professor Wang Shuangyuan, Professor Li Shiyin, Professor Chen Xuerong, Professor Li Linfeng, and Professor Zhang Chunlei. The current department director is Professor Wang Wenhui. It is a National Key Discipline of the Ministry of Education, a doctoral degree program, a Beijing standardized residency training base, and a National Clinical Pharmacology Base. The department currently has 34 qualified physicians, including 14 with senior professional titles (including 2 retired rehired staff) and 10 with intermediate professional titles. There are 17 attending physicians specializing in cosmetic dermatology. The department currently has 5 doctoral and master's supervisors. It has trained over 50 doctoral students and more than 30 master's students. Currently, there are nearly 20 graduate students and standardized training trainees. The department has an independent Dermatology and Venereology Research Laboratory, undertaking multiple national, provincial/ministerial, and various society research projects, and has led the compilation and translation of numerous textbooks and monographs. It has participated in and completed multiple international and national multicenter clinical drug trials. In 2001, together with the Dermatology Departments of Peking University First Hospital and Peking University People's Hospital, it jointly established the Peking University Center for Prevention and Treatment of Skin Diseases. Through years of accumulation, it has developed clinical subspecialties featuring skin tumors, allergies and pruritus, skin infections, cosmetic dermatology, and psoriasis, with platforms for dermatopathology, allergen testing, fungal detection, skin imaging, ultraviolet therapy, photodynamic therapy, and various laser treatments. Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment: 1. Common benign and malignant skin tumors, dermoscopic examination, pathological examination, and molecular biological diagnosis. 2. Allergic and pruritic diseases: including various eczemas and dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, pruritus, urticaria, drug eruptions, etc., patch testing, and in vitro allergen detection. 3. Skin infections: various superficial and deep fungal infections, herpes zoster, postherpetic neuralgia, severe and rare bacterial infections or mixed infections, viral warts, etc. Etiological testing and identification are available. 4. Cosmetic dermatology: common pigmented and vascular disorders, various scars, inflammatory acne, keloids, xanthelasma, various skin growths, hypertrichosis, sensitive skin, etc. 5. Psoriasis and immune-related diseases: psoriasis, with biologic therapy available. Vitiligo, androgenetic alopecia, etc. 6. Other severe dermatological diseases: bullous diseases such as pemphigus, connective tissue diseases such as lupus erythematosus, severe drug eruptions, etc. The department currently serves as a center for skin tumors, atopic dermatitis, and photodynamic therapy research under the Chinese Society of Dermatology, a Beijing cosmetic adverse reaction monitoring sentinel site, a Peking University Fungal Disease Research Center unit, and a member department of the Peking University Third Hospital Medical Cosmetic Center and Medical Pain Center. The annual outpatient and emergency visits currently reach nearly 250,000, ranking among the highest in Beijing. The complexity and criticality index of admitted patients has been increasing year by year, and the department has repeatedly received hospital-level awards for managing difficult and critical cases, becoming a Beijing consultation center for difficult dermatological diseases.
