Our department was established in 1987, initially named the Senior Cadre Internal Medicine Department, and is now known as the Geriatric Internal Medicine Department. It is composed of 23 physicians (including 2 chief physicians and 9 associate chief physicians), 44 nurses (including 10 supervisor nurses, 7 geriatric specialist nurses, 1 hospice care specialist nurse, and 1 nutrition specialist nurse), and 1 rehabilitation therapist, forming a highly skilled team dedicated to geriatric medicine. The department director is Chief Physician Zhang Fuchun, who also serves as the president of Peking University Third Hospital Haidian Hospital; the deputy directors are Zhang Fan and Liu Huilin; the party branch secretary is Liu Huilin; and the head nurses are Guo Ying, Sun Hui, and Zhao Xiuwei. Our outpatient services include the Senior Cadre Clinic (Clinic 102) and the Geriatric Internal Medicine Clinic. The Geriatric Internal Medicine Clinic operates at the main hospital, the Central Party School Campus, the Northern Campus, and the Haidian Northern Campus. Clinic 102 primarily serves the cadre healthcare population holding "102" cards; the Geriatric Internal Medicine Clinic mainly caters to patients aged 60 and above with common internal medicine conditions, offering both specialist and general consultation appointments. With the growing aging population, our outpatient volume has increased year by year. Our inpatient department comprises three wards: Wards 1 and 2 are located at the main hospital, and Ward 3 is situated at the Central Party School Campus, with a total of 72 beds. We admit patients with common geriatric internal medicine conditions such as coronary heart disease, hypertension, arrhythmia, heart failure, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and diabetes. We have extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of elderly patients with multimorbidity, where one individual presents with multiple coexisting diseases. Our department conducts hospice and palliative care services, with hospice care beds designated in Ward 3 of the Geriatric Internal Medicine Department. These are all special-needs wards, admitting patients with end-stage diseases or those receiving palliative treatment. Our department has a professional geriatric nursing team with rich experience in caring for patients with malnutrition, as well as those with various indwelling tubes such as nasogastric tubes, urinary catheters, and PICC lines. We comprehensively implement comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) in both outpatient and inpatient settings, evaluating multiple dimensions including activities of daily living, cognitive function, fall risk, nutritional status, psycho-emotional disorders, and polypharmacy risks, to develop integrated treatment plans combining therapy, nursing, and rehabilitation. Our department collaborates closely with the Department of Sports Medicine and the Department of Orthopedics for perioperative patient assessment and management. The project "Interdepartmental Deep Collaboration to Ensure Perioperative Patient Safety" was awarded the Third Prize of the Medical Safety Management Award by Peking University Third Hospital. Our department advocates for "warm treatment and care," fostering a comforting departmental atmosphere and truly delivering patient-centered medical services. We have repeatedly received awards including the Outstanding Management Team Award, High-Quality Service Award, and Advanced Department for Spiritual Civilization. We are committed to doing our utmost to promote healthy aging and improve the quality of life for elderly patients.
