Department Introduction Department Overview The Department of Otolaryngology at Ruijin Hospital has been established for over 90 years and has developed into a discipline renowned for the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck tumors, with comprehensive and distinctive sub-specialties. The department has 24 physicians, including 10 with senior professional titles and 5 doctoral and master's supervisors; 10 hold doctoral degrees and 12 hold master's degrees. It has over 60 open beds, performs more than 6,000 various surgeries annually, and handles over 130,000 outpatient and emergency visits per year. While maintaining traditional strengths in snoring surgery, nose-eye-related surgery, and ear surgery, the department has introduced numerous new techniques in the field of head and neck tumors in recent years, such as transoral minimally invasive surgery for early-stage malignant tumors of the pharynx and larynx, planned comprehensive treatment with larynx-preserving radical surgery for advanced laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer, endoscopic endonasal salvage resection for recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and nerve-function-preserving resection of cervical schwannomas. The tumor types treated cover all categories of head and neck tumors, with the number of laryngeal cancer surgeries consistently ranking among the top three in Shanghai. The department has supervised dozens of graduate students, many of whom have received funding from Shanghai talent programs. It has undertaken multiple research projects, including major research programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has published dozens of SCI papers.
