The Department of Clinical Nutrition at Renji Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine was established in 1998. It is a co-construction unit of key medical disciplines of the Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau, a China Clinical Nutrition Demonstration Unit of the Chinese Nutrition Society, an undergraduate teaching base of the Department of Nutrition of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and among the first batch of pilot units for clinical nutrition department construction and the second batch of demonstration units for clinical nutrition discipline construction of the Hospital Management Institute of the National Health Commission. The department has 8 physicians, including 2 with senior professional titles (2 chief physicians) and 3 with doctoral degrees. There are 13 dietitians, including 6 with intermediate professional titles. All dietitians have obtained the qualification of National Registered Dietitian/Nutrition Technician. Clinical features: The department's scope of practice covers all nutritional domains, including parenteral and enteral nutrition, PN preparation, EN preparation, therapeutic diets, and food for special medical purposes. Nutrition consultation, nutrition assessment, formulation of individualized parenteral and enteral nutrition treatment plans, three-level ward rounds, parenteral nutrition solution preparation, and infusion monitoring have all formed a scientific, standardized, and complete system. Consultation patients mainly come from critically ill patients in various clinical disciplines, including multiple organ failure, short bowel syndrome, various gastrointestinal fistulas (intestinal fistula, biliary and pancreatic fistula), severe lymphatic fistula caused by various reasons, gastroparesis after gastrointestinal surgery, severe pancreatitis and post-pancreatic tumor surgery, post-Bricker's surgery for bladder tumor, post-aortic dissection surgery, severe inflammatory bowel disease, small intestinal malabsorption syndrome, severe craniocerebral trauma, dialysis treatment for renal failure, severe rheumatic diseases with intestinal failure, critically ill puerperae, advanced tumors with cachexia, extremely elderly patients with malnutrition, and dysphagia caused by various diseases (after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, etc.). Research features: Research work is carried out around obesity, critical illness, tumors, transplantation, and inflammatory bowel disease. The department has undertaken 17 provincial, ministerial, and bureau-level projects. It has published 135 papers in core journals and 47 SCI papers, with a total impact factor of 229 points, the highest single-paper impact factor of 13.8 points, and total citations >1200 times. The department has edited 1 book and participated in editing 25 books. Our department has been awarded the titles of "March 8th Red Banner Collective" of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai "Women's Civilization Post", "Public Welfare Dedication Award" of the Shanghai Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and "2017 Advanced Department in Nutrition Discipline Construction" of the Chinese Nutrition Society, among others. In 2002, it won the Third Prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award; in 2008, the "Advanced Clinical Nutrition Work Unit" of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association; in 2010, the Third Prize of Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Award. In 2011, it was recognized as a "China Clinical Nutrition Demonstration Unit" by the Clinical Nutrition Branch of the Chinese Nutrition Society; in 2011, "March 8th Red Banner Collective" of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine; in 2012, "Women's Civilization Post" of the Shanghai Education System; in 2015, "Shanghai Overseas Chinese Public Welfare Dedication Award"; in 2016, Shanghai "Women's Civilization Post"; in 2017, "2017 Advanced Department in Nutrition Discipline Construction"; in 2019, "Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Award Achievement Promotion Award"; in 2024, the Renxin Renshu Award.
