The Department of Psychological Medicine at Renji Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine is a committee member unit of the Psychiatric Medicine Specialized Committee of the Chinese Medical Association, a vice-chairman unit of the Psychiatric Medicine Branch of the Shanghai Medical Association, a core unit of the Shanghai Clinical Research Center for Mental and Psychological Disorders, and a vice-chairman unit of the Shanghai Mental Health Service Industry Association. It integrates clinical practice, scientific research, teaching, and public education, and possesses professional diagnostic and treatment expertise for mental and psychological disorders. It provides full-course management for patients with anxiety disorders, somatic symptom disorders, depressive disorders, and sleep disorders. Clinical diagnosis and treatment primarily include psychological assessment, pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and psychological rehabilitation, with independent physical rehabilitation treatment rooms, psychological assessment rooms, and psychotherapy rooms. The Department of Psychological Medicine at Renji Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine currently operates outpatient services and physical rehabilitation treatment rooms, psychological assessment rooms, and psychotherapy rooms at both the East Campus and West Campus. It has 5 formally registered physicians, 1 nurse, 1 psychological technician, and 1 medical secretary. The annual total outpatient and emergency visits exceed 40,000. It offers specialized clinics for anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Combining pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy, it develops individualized intervention plans for patients. The department undertakes multiple national and provincial-level projects, including Key Projects of the Regional Joint Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and General Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as multiple multicenter clinical research projects. Research is conducted on the pathogenesis of depression with sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, and chronic pain. The Renji psychology team actively engages in public education for mental health, creating various forms of educational works including micro-films, animated films, stage plays, and comic crosstalk, and has received dozens of national awards of various types. It undertakes 1 project of the first round of the Shanghai Health Science Popularization Talent Capacity Enhancement Special Program. In terms of teaching, the department undertakes theoretical course teaching, clinical internship supervision, and graduate student training for Shanghai Jiao Tong University and its School of Medicine. In terms of international cooperation, the Renji Department of Psychology was the first to introduce Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) technology into China and has conducted multiple IPT training sessions with participants from all over the country. Director Luo Yanli currently serves as Vice Chair of the China Branch of the International Society for Interpersonal Psychotherapy and is a certified supervisor of the International IPT Association. The Renji Department of Psychology will continue to strengthen cooperation with domestic and international hospitals and medical schools, exchange advanced concepts, expand treatment technologies, and provide patients with higher quality medical services.
