The Department of Dermatology at Renji Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine was established in 1932 and is one of the earliest dermatology departments in Shanghai. The department currently comprises three campuses (East, West, and South), with an annual outpatient volume of 200,000 visits and over 300 discharged patients. It offers general dermatology outpatient services as well as dermatological cosmetic outpatient services, dermatological laser outpatient services, sexually transmitted disease outpatient services, and multiple specialized clinics for acne, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, etc. It has a mycology laboratory, dermatopathology laboratory, skin testing laboratory, laser treatment room (formerly the Shanghai Laser Medical Center), dermatological surgery treatment room, phototherapy room, and facial treatment room, providing nearly 30 examination and treatment items for various skin diseases and sexually transmitted diseases, with 12 beds established at the West Campus. It is a national "Skin Cosmetology Training Base," "Acne Research Center," "Rosacea Research Center," "National Acne Diagnosis and Treatment Demonstration Base," and "Environment and Psoriasis Research Center." It is currently the leading unit of the Acne Group of the Dermatology Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the Acne Group of the Dermatology Branch of the Chinese Non-Governmental Medical Institutions Association, and the Acne Rehabilitation Group of the Skin Rehabilitation Branch of the Chinese Rehabilitation Association. The department currently has 18 physicians, including 2 chief physicians, 4 associate chief physicians, 6 doctoral degree holders, and 8 master's degree holders. Five of them have studied for extended periods (over 1 year) in dermatology departments of internationally renowned universities in Germany and the United States and have established collaborative relationships. Professor Zouboulis from Germany, President of the International Acne Association, serves as a visiting professor of our department. Eight members of the department hold positions in national and Shanghai professional committees or academic groups. In the past 5 years, the department has obtained 6 National Natural Science Foundation projects, more than 20 other projects including Shanghai Natural Science Foundation projects, one Third Prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, and published 20 SCI articles. It annually hosts the national continuing education program "Acne Research Progress Training Course" (also known as the Renji Acne Forum), which is a signature conference in the field of acne in China. The department also undertakes teaching tasks for the clinical medicine program, preventive medicine program, general practitioner training, Shanghai-Ottawa Joint Medical College, and graduate students at the Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
