The Department of Endocrinology at Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine was established in 1999. It currently has 21 physicians, with 66.67% holding doctoral degrees, 2 with senior professional titles, 7 with associate senior professional titles, 2 doctoral supervisors, and 3 master's supervisors. The Department of Endocrinology has always been committed to continuous innovation and in-depth exploration in clinical diagnosis and treatment as well as basic research. At the time of its establishment, the department was the first in Shanghai to apply electronic data management to the construction of a diabetes patient database, and actively explored a new outpatient diagnosis and treatment model involving diabetes nurses, which has been adopted by multiple hospitals locally and elsewhere. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has been a specialty feature of the Endocrinology Department at Renji Hospital for many years. Under the leadership of Professor Liu Wei, the PCOS research group has obtained multiple national and municipal research projects, published over a hundred high-quality academic papers domestically and internationally, and enjoys a high reputation in the field for its clinical and research standards. In recent years, the department director Professor Ma Jing has gradually broadened the department's advantageous sub-specialty directions, striving to build a hardcore department with comprehensive development in endocrinology and metabolism. Not only has the original obesity sub-specialty grown into another brand direction of the department, but it has also established the National Metabolic Management Center (MMC), obesity and reproduction, pituitary/adrenal diseases, fatty liver, osteoporosis, thyroid and other specialty clinics or multidisciplinary joint clinics, keeping pace with the frontiers of medical development, and utilizing advanced technologies such as molecular diagnostics to strive for precise diagnosis and personalized treatment of diseases, providing patients with the highest quality medical care across the full life cycle and in all aspects. In order to provide patients with better services, the Department of Endocrinology has successively sent department members to visit and study at renowned institutions such as Harvard, Mayo Clinic, and Johns Hopkins in the United States, acquiring the most advanced disease management concepts and methods to apply to daily clinical work. Up to now, the Department of Endocrinology has obtained multiple talent programs in Shanghai, undertaken multiple research projects including key research and development projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, key research projects of the Ministry of Education, and National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, and published more than 200 academic papers in influential journals in the field of endocrinology domestically and internationally, including Advanced Functional Materials, JACC, JCEM, etc.
