In May 2021, Renji Hospital officially established and began operating the "Renji Hospital Craniocerebral Trauma Center," a newly established, independently operating clinical department of Renji Hospital, with Dr. Feng Junfeng serving as the department director. Clinically, the center focuses on emergency surgery for craniocerebral trauma, cerebral hemorrhage, and other diseases as well as brain injury caused by various reasons, treatment of various neurocritical illnesses, coma arousal, neurological functional rehabilitation, and management of post-traumatic and post-hemorrhagic complications (cranioplasty, ventriculoperitoneal shunt for hydrocephalus, treatment of diencephalic seizures, etc.). At present, there are 11 full-time clinicians, all of whom hold doctoral degrees. The center has a total of 3 doctoral supervisors and 2 master's supervisors, with 16 graduate students currently enrolled. The center has a dedicated research platform—the Shanghai Institute of Craniocerebral Trauma. At present, there are 3 full-time research personnel, all of whom hold doctoral degrees. The team has received funding from 973 sub-projects (3 items), the National Health Special Fund, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (25 items), and others. The Craniocerebral Trauma Center was formerly the Craniocerebral Trauma-Neurocritical Care Specialty Group of the Department of Neurosurgery at Renji Hospital. After 18 years of development, Professor Jiang Jiyao has successively served as President of the International Neurotrauma Society and Chairman of the Trauma Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. The Renji Hospital craniocerebral trauma team has received awards including the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the First Prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, and the First Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education. It has also received numerous honors, including the Wang Zhongcheng Neurosurgery Physician Award (3 people), the Wang Zhengguo Trauma Medicine Award Innovation Award, Shanghai Leading Talent, Shanghai Outstanding Academic Leader (3 people), the Shanghai Silver Snake Award (3 people), and the Shanghai Youth Commando Team (collective). In recent years, the clinical treatment of the Renji craniocerebral trauma team has reached an internationally advanced level, maintaining close exchanges with well-known international clinical and research institutions, and publishing 6 articles in the internationally top journal The Lancet Neurology. At the same time, it has led the formulation of 13 expert consensus documents related to clinical treatment in China, and served as editor-in-chief of 10 monographs, including Modern Craniocerebral Injury, Diagnosis and Treatment of Craniocerebral Trauma, and Guidelines for the Treatment of Craniocerebral Trauma. It has become one of the domestically recognized highlands for the treatment of craniocerebral trauma and neurocritical illness that plays a leading role.
