Department Introduction
Department Overview
The Wound Repair Center of Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine was established in 2016 and is one of the earliest units in China to establish an independent wound repair department. It mainly undertakes the diagnosis and treatment of various chronic refractory wounds, including all wounds except severe burns (traumatic) injuries, such as diabetic foot wounds, pressure ulcer wounds (bedsores), vascular ulcer wounds, various iatrogenic wounds (postoperative wound dehiscence, postoperative wound infection or rejection after artificial implant surgery, skin ulcers after radiotherapy and chemotherapy), stomas, cancerous wounds, skin sinus tracts, etc.
The Wound Repair Center of Ruijin Hospital is the leading unit for the construction of wound repair departments in China and is a teaching base for the National Health Commission's "Special Capacity Training Project for Wound Repair." Relying on the Shanghai Wound Repair Research Center as the scientific research support platform for the discipline, it has formed an innovative professional technical team integrating medicine, nursing, technology, teaching, and research.
The Wound Repair Center of Ruijin Hospital took the lead in developing endoscopic treatment technology for sinus tract wounds, increasing the average healing time of sinus tract wounds to 18 days. This technology has become a characteristic treatment of our department.
Ruijin Hospital is one of the earlier units in China to carry out clinical research on refractory wounds. Under the leadership of discipline leaders represented by Professor Lu Shuliang, through the implementation of national-level research projects such as "973" and the "National Natural Science Foundation," achievements related to wound repair have won 1 First Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. It has served as chief editor and participating chief editor of industry standards and guidelines and related monographs such as the "Chinese Guidelines for Wound Repair" and the "Training Course for Wound Repair Physicians," and has published papers such as "Diagnostic and Treatment Approaches and Principles for Chronic Wounds in China." It has proposed a classification theory for sinus tract wounds, which are relatively common but difficult to manage among chronic wounds, and innovated "Endoscopic and Its Assisted Techniques for the Treatment of Chronic Sinus Tract (Cavity) Wounds" (demonstrated by the Expert Committee for Standardized Construction of Wound Repair of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association).
