Department Introduction Department Overview The Department of Neurology at Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine was founded in March 1963. The founder of the discipline was Professor Xu Delong, a renowned Chinese neurology expert who once served in the first-generation central senior leadership healthcare work. The former department director was Professor Chen Shengdi, a renowned Chinese neurology expert, and the current department director is Professor Liu Jun. In the 2022 Fudan Edition "Neurology Specialty Rankings," the discipline ranked eighth nationwide. The discipline has subspecialties including movement disorders, cognitive disorders, neuroimmunology and difficult diseases, epilepsy, sleep disorders, cerebrovascular diseases, neuroelectrophysiology, neuromuscular diseases and pathology. It is a Ministry of Education national key (cultivation) discipline, a Ministry of Education 11th Five-Year "211" Phase III key construction discipline, a National Health Commission national clinical key specialty, a Shanghai municipal key discipline, and a Shanghai Municipal Education Commission key discipline. It is also a National Health Commission clinical specialty physician training base, a National SFDA clinical pharmacology base, and a Shanghai resident physician and specialty physician standardized training base. For nearly 10 consecutive years, it has been selected among the top ten in the national reputation key specialty rankings. The discipline has strong basic and clinical research capabilities and a well-trained team of young and middle-aged researchers. It has received a total of 26 first, second, and third prizes from national, Ministry of Education, Chinese Medical Association, Shanghai municipal, and Shanghai medical awards. In recent years, it has led or participated in 44 projects, including the National Ministry of Science and Technology "973" and "863" programs, the "Major New Drug Creation Project," the "2030 Major Special Project," the Support Program, and National Natural Science Foundation key and general projects.
