Department Introduction Department Overview The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine was founded in 1952 and comprises the Division of Cardiology, the Division of Hypertension, the Institute of Cardiovascular Research of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and the Shanghai Institute of Hypertension. It is a National Key Discipline, a National Clinical Key Specialty, a member unit of the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Hypertension and the State Key Laboratory of Medical Genomics, and ranks among the top ten in the Chinese Hospital Specialty Rankings. The department has 350 open beds and is equipped with 10 DSA systems and the most advanced international instruments and equipment. Each year, it completes more than 10,000 interventional procedures for coronary artery disease, pacing and electrophysiology, structural heart disease, and peripheral vascular disease. It has led the development of the "Chinese Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction," the "Chinese Expert Consensus on Cryoballoon Catheter Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation," the "Chinese Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Hypertension," the "Chinese Guidelines for Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring," and the "Chinese Guidelines for Home Blood Pressure Monitoring." The department currently has 103 clinical physicians and full-time research personnel, with 85% holding doctoral degrees. It has 2 recipients of the National Natural Science Foundation of China Excellent Young Scientists Fund, 1 recipient of the New Century Talent Program of the Ministry of Education of China, 1 Shanghai Leading Talent, and multiple recipients of talent programs such as the Shanghai Silver Snake Award. It has 2 postdoctoral mobile stations, 12 doctoral supervisors, and 14 master's supervisors, with 68 master's students, doctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows currently in training. Relying on the National Facility for Translational Medicine platform, the department focuses on ischemic myocardial injury and repair, hypertensive vascular remodeling, and metabolism and vascular biology, and is dedicated to mechanistic research and translational application of findings. Over the past decade, it has received more than 100 National Natural Science Foundation of China grants, including Key Projects, Major Projects, and Key International Cooperation Projects, with cumulative research funding exceeding 100 million RMB. In the past 5 years, it has published 185 SCI papers in top journals such as Circulation (4 papers), JACC, Eur Heart J, Circ Res, ATVB, and Hypertension, with a cumulative impact factor of more than 800 points, applied for more than 20 patents, and served as chief editor or associate chief editor for 16 monographs. It has received more than 10 awards, including the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and awards from the Ministry of Education of China and provincial and ministerial levels.
