The Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine is a key department of Peking University International Hospital, a nationally accredited unit for the PCCM Standardized Construction Project, a member unit of the National Pulmonary Embolism and Pulmonary Vascular Disease Prevention and Treatment Collaboration Group, and a member unit of the COPD Collaboration Group of the China-Japan Friendship Hospital Respiratory Specialty Medical Alliance. It primarily admits patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchial asthma, cor pulmonale, pulmonary thromboembolism, lung cancer, sleep apnea syndrome, pneumonia, pleural effusion, pneumothorax, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary vascular disease, various difficult and complex respiratory diseases, as well as critically ill patients in the Department of Internal Medicine. In addition to general wards, the department also has an independent Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) and currently possesses sufficient respiratory support equipment, including internationally branded invasive ventilators, non-invasive ventilators, and heated humidified high-flow nasal cannula therapy devices. The success rate of rescue for acute pulmonary embolism, acute respiratory failure, severe asthma, and severe pneumonia is relatively high. The department has established a bronchoscopy suite, currently equipped with 3 standard bronchoscopes, 2 therapeutic bronchoscopes, 1 bedside bronchoscope, and 1 endobronchial ultrasound bronchoscope. The pulmonary function laboratory can perform pulmonary function tests, airway reversibility tests, fractional exhaled nitric oxide measurement, and bronchial provocation tests. The respiratory outpatient clinic includes general outpatient services, expert outpatient services, special needs outpatient services, as well as a smoking cessation clinic, pulmonary embolism clinic, COPD and asthma clinic, and a specialized clinic for pulmonary nodules. Additionally, it undertakes teaching tasks for respiratory diagnostics and respiratory medicine clinical theory, clerkship, and internship for undergraduate students majoring in clinical medicine at Peking University Health Science Center. It is a clinical diagnosis, treatment, and research center integrating medical care, teaching, and scientific research.
