The Department of Head and Neck Surgery at the Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University is a key medical discipline for head and neck oncology in Shanghai. It has two wards, located in Fengyang and Pujiang, with 60 beds. The annual outpatient and emergency visits exceed 40,000, and the annual surgical volume is over 3,500 cases. The hospital performs approximately 800 cases of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer surgeries annually, making it one of the institutions with the highest annual surgical case volume for laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer in the country. In 2003, led by the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, the Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University established the "Head and Neck Tumor Multidisciplinary Team Diagnosis and Treatment Center," involving multiple disciplines including Head and Neck Surgery, Radiation/Medical Oncology, Radiology, and Pathology. In 2015, the "Head and Neck Tumor MDT Multidisciplinary Joint Clinic" was launched. The diagnosis and treatment of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer have always been our department's leading strengths. Additionally, the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the parotid gland, submandibular gland, thyroid, oropharynx, as well as various unexplained neck masses, are also traditional strengths of our department. We have made significant achievements in conventional open head and neck surgery, microsurgical surgery, endoscopy-assisted surgery, and da Vinci robotic surgery. We have established: the Head and Neck Tumor Innovative Diagnosis and Treatment Center, the Head and Neck Tumor Robotic TORS Minimally Invasive Diagnosis and Treatment Center, the Head and Neck Tumor Endoscopic Minimally Invasive Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and the Parapharyngeal Space Tumor Diagnosis and Treatment Center. Over the years, our MDT team has accumulated rich experience in the standardized/individualized diagnosis and treatment of head and neck tumors. The academic status and influence of the discipline, as well as the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment level and scale, rank among the top in the country. In recent years, we have received funding from 10 National Natural Science Foundation projects. Related research achievements have been published in 110 papers over the past 5 years in journals such as Cancer Letters, Oral Oncology, Head & Neck, Laryngoscope, and Chinese Journal of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. Clinical research projects have received 2 honors. "Basic and Clinical Promotion and Application of Laryngeal Cancer Treatment Strategies Suitable for China's National Conditions" won the Third Prize of the 2019 Chinese Medical Award. "Basic and Clinical Research and Promotion of Standardized Function-Preserving Treatment for Laryngeal Cancer" won the Third Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award from the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission in 2018.
