The Second Department of Thoracic Oncology at Peking University Cancer Hospital primarily focuses on lung cancer, malignant thymoma, pleural mesothelioma, and other malignant tumors of the lungs and thoracic cavity. As a clinical department integrating medical care, teaching, and research, it boasts extensive clinical experience and advanced treatment philosophies, implementing individualized comprehensive diagnosis and treatment based on standardized protocols. The department stays abreast of the latest international research developments, combining decades of clinical experience to alleviate patient suffering and improve survival benefits. It tailors standardized and reasonable comprehensive treatment plans for patients, excelling in the comprehensive management of various types of lung cancer. It rationally employs immunotherapy, targeted therapy, chemotherapy, and other treatment modalities, collaborating with thoracic surgery, radiotherapy, interventional therapy, and other departments to provide holistic management for cancer patients. Additionally, it offers palliative care, including standardized management of cancer pain, and conducts various diagnostic and therapeutic measures, such as bronchoscopy. The Second Department of Thoracic Oncology currently has 29 beds. Over the years, it has cultivated a highly educated, patient-centered, and proactive medical team, along with a well-trained, dedicated, and compassionate nursing team. The department comprises 37 medical and nursing staff, including 1 chief physician, 8 associate chief physicians, 4 attending physicians, and 2 resident physicians. The department director, Fang Jian, is a chief physician and graduate supervisor. He has been engaged in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer since 1989 and has visited and studied at the renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States. He currently serves as Vice President of the Beijing Cancer Prevention and Treatment Research Association, Chair of the Lung Cancer Committee of the Beijing Cancer Prevention and Treatment Research Association, Vice Chair of the Molecular Targeted Therapy Committee of the Geriatric Oncology Committee of the Chinese Gerontology Society, Vice Chair of the Precision Medicine and Tumor MDT Committee of the Chinese Research Hospital Association, Vice Chair of the Tumor Nutrition Committee of the China Anti-Aging Promotion Association, Member of the Lung Cancer Committee of the Geriatric Oncology Committee of the Chinese Gerontology Society, Member of the CSCO Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Expert Committee, Member of the CSCO Vascular Targeted Therapy Expert Committee, Member of the Thoracic Oncology Committee of the China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care, Executive Member of the Geriatric Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, and Drug Evaluation Expert of the National Medical Products Administration. In 2016, he received the Second Prize of the Huaxia Medical Science and Technology Award. He has led and participated in numerous international and domestic multicenter clinical studies and has published dozens of research papers. The department is currently undertaking multiple international and domestic clinical research projects, including studies on novel chemotherapy drugs, targeted therapy drugs, and tumor treatment vaccines.
